The Springfield Township Zoning Department was established to enforce the Springfield Township Zoning Resolution which was adopted November 21, 1957 under the authority of Sections 519.02 to 519.99 inclusive, of the Ohio Revised Code.
The Resolution was enacted by majority vote, for the general purpose of promoting the public health, safety, comfort, and welfare of the Township of Springfield, Summit County, Ohio; to regulate the location, height, bulk, number of stories, and size of buildings and other structures; percentages of lot areas which may be occupied; setback building lines; sizes of yards and other open spaces; the density of population; the uses of land for trade, industry, residence, recreation, or other purposes in the unincorporated territory of Springfield Township; to divide the territory of the Township into districts or zones; to provide a method of administration; and enforcement of such regulations.
All requests concerning any phase of Zoning MUST be presented to the Zoning Inspector who shall, when necessary, forward all documents to the proper Board or Commission. The Zoning Inspector has the final determination of the Zoning Resolution as it exists.
If you have questions concerning any Zoning related issue, please contact Zoning Inspector, Nicholas R. Campanelli, or Assistant Zoning Inspector, Bill Arnold Monday - Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm at (330) 794-0134 or by fax at (330) 794-0400
ZONING UPDATE
***Draft Proposal of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, for Public Review.***
Summit County’s modifications to the proposed comprehensive land use plan.
The Springfield Township Zoning Department will be working with McBride Dale Clarion (MDC) Planning Consultant Firm to update the Springfield Township Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Resolution. This 18-month project will help to make necessary improvements to these documents so that they are more user-friendly by eliminating confusing language and inconsistencies. Diagrams, illustrations, legible text with headings, and page numbering will be some of the proposed formatting techniques used to make it easier for residents to find code regulations related to their specific project.
MDC is nationally recognized for its innovation and ability to effectively work with townships and municipalities that enhance the unique character of each community. Most recently, they have provided technical advice to develop a future land use plan and zoning ordinance update for the City of Green, Ohio; Sugarcreek Township, Ohio; Franklin City, Tennessee; Colerain Township, Ohio; and New Berlin City, Wisconsin.
Periodic benchmark public hearings will be conducted throughout this process to keep residents informed about proposed changes. If you are interested in learning more about MDV, visit them online at www.mcbridedale.com. |
